The Amazonian Royal Flycatcher? What the heck is that? It is probably one the most awesome animals on the planet and you will see why!

They are found in the Amazon rainforests and other humid areas such as Northern Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, the Guianas and Brazil.

They are 6 inches in length on average – Small, Silent but Deadly!!

They hang on a branch just above the water line which keeps them safe from predators, but perfect distance for their prey – Insects. They will wait for the right moment, once the time is right they will dart out from the branch with immense speed and eat the insect within seconds.

Another way they catch insects is using their head which looks like a flower in some way, when an insect lands on there, they snap their head up very quickly and consume the insect. However this colourful headdress is usually used for warning off predators.

They build humongous nests considering their size – Up to 6 feet long!

One of the more unusual creatures on this list but definitely worthy of being number 22 as it is a weird and wonderful creature that really, I don’t think many people will have heard of!
